Iredell County Public Library Commemorates 250 Years of Freedom with Year-Long Exhibit Series

Statesville, NC — The Iredell County Public Library will host a series of four local history exhibits throughout 2026 as part of America 250, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The first exhibit, Visions of Freedom, will open to the public on January 12 on the Main floor of the Statesville branch library. Visions of Freedom focuses on highlighting local landmarks, Revolutionary era residents, and important social movements that not only shaped the nation, but the Iredell County community. This free exhibit will offer a blend of information, images, and engaging interactive activities designed to appeal to visitors of all ages. As we flip our calendars and head into 2026, we are gathering stories, ideas, and traditions from across the state. In this issue, you’ll find highlights from recent events and community gatherings, traveling exhibit schedules, the next book club read, and exciting new project updates for coming year.

Library Kicks Off Bookmark Contest for Nation’s 250th Anniversary.

Iredell County, NC — As our nation prepares to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026, the Iredell County Public Library (ICPL) invites the community to join in the celebration with our annual bookmark contest. Participants of all ages are encouraged to create a patriotic bookmark that embodies the spirit and history of our nation. Winning designs will be selected by the Friends of the Library board. First-place designs from each age group will be professionally printed and featured during ICPL’s Summer Reading program. Additionally, first, second, and third place winners will receive exciting prizes courtesy of the Friends of the Library. Design templates can be picked up at any Iredell County Public Library branch or downloaded from our website. We invite participants to submit their completed designs to the library no later than March 31, 2026. Join us in this creative celebration of America's rich history and bright future. We look forward to seeing your imaginative contributions as we honor this milestone anniversary.
